APLE HOMEWORK 3/10 DEADLINE APRIL 2ND

This week your homework is much easier than other times (at least technically).
You just have to watch this part of the interview to Penelope Cruz on Jimmy Kimmel Show on American TV and answer the questions below the video. If you can't watch the video here, just look for Jimmy Kimmel Live Penelope Cruz on Youtube and you will find it.

1.- What are Penelope Cruz two nicknames?
2.- What is the problem when Jimmy and Pe kiss?
3.- How old is Pe's baby?
4.- Has Pe ever slept 15 hours in a row?
5.- Who slept for 3 days in a row?
6.- Are Pe and her sister Monica twins?
7.- Have Pe and Monica ever worked together?
8.- Does Pe like heavy metal music?
9.- Where and what does Pe sing at the karaoke?
10.- What does Eminem think about Pe and her karaoke?

You have to send me the reply to those answers to my usual email hotmail address.
Good luck.

APLE COMPUTER LESSON MARCH 28TH

Hello Students,
I didn't plan to have a computer lesson today (you know why), but in the end I have changed my mind (look at the time!!!).
Today we are going to talk about the "Earth Hour". Do you know what it is? Did you take part in it last Saturday? Are you for or against it?

First of all, I want you to watch a video about the project. Since our Internet connection is really slow, we'll be watching it on the overhead projector.
Now you have five minutes to research about this project. Try to find the answer to questions like:
-When did it start?
-Where did it start?
-How many people/countries/cities have taken part in it this year?
-What is the purpose of this initiative?
-Are there people against it?
-Did it happen in Madrid or Majadahonda?

Now you are going to listen to an article about it and you are going to try to fill in these blanks:

Millions of buildings around the globe _________________ hour on Saturday, March 28 as the third Earth Hour takes place. The event is organized by the World Wildlife Fund. It started in 2007 ________________ attention to the dangers of climate change. The Earth Hour website says: “For _________________ history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity _________________ switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming.” Organizers hope their message _________________ people. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Earth Hour promises to be “the largest demonstration _________________ about climate change ever attempted”.

Not everyone agrees that Earth Hour will help. Many _________________ too little, too late and _________________ change when the lights are switched back on. Climate campaigner Clive Hamilton says: "We are well _________________ feel-good exercises aimed at raising awareness… It's like the band playing on as the Titanic sinks.” He says _________________ because the next morning people will think the climate has recovered a little. "Symbolism is powerful _________________, but dangerous if it substitutes for it," he says. Environmentalist Mark Alexander-Warne agrees. He stresses _________________ our daily energy consumption, rather than simply “sitting around in the dark” for an hour.

Here you have a couple of places where you can see photos from the event. The Guardian and CNN.

Let's see how it went.

APLE COMPUTER LESSON MARCH 25TH

Hello students,
Other teachers are working really well about the topic of Japan. This week we are going to visit the great blog "up to date" and do all the activities about Japan. There are 5 activities to do, including watching images and a video.
DO NOT WRITE ANYTHING ON THE MESSAGE BOARD!!!! IF YOU DO, EVERYTHING IS RECORDED AND YOU MIGHT GET INTO REAL TROUBLE

If in the last 5 minutes you are really fed up with so much Japan, you can relax with this great idea from Starbucks to raise money for people living with HIV in Africa. It is a video with a nice Beatles song sung by people in 156 different countries at the same time. Amazing.

APLE HOMEWORK 2/10. DEADLINE MARCH 25TH

This week your homework has to do with doctors and conversations at the doctor.
You have to go here, choose your group (aple 2011), select "At the doctor" (it is the only possibility) and do the activity. You have to click on the balloon and when it turns orange, record your answer with your microphone. When you finish, click on the balloon again. If you like what you have recorded, continue with the next balloon. If you don't like it, click on the X at the top right hand corner of the balloon and start all over again.
When you finish all the conversation, click on "submit" at the bottom of the conversation and write your full name and your email address. It will directly come to me so that I will be able to correct it.
Don't leave it for the very last day in case you have some technical problems.
You can leave comments here saying if you like this activity or not.

JOANN STUDENTS MARCH 18TH

Dear students,

This week we are going to deal with the idea of prejudice, discrimination and racism. For that purpose we are going to do some research, watch some videos and then discuss about the topic.

The videos we are going to watch deal with black discrimination in the United States in 1970s. Therefore, the first we'll have to do will be to do some research about that time and that place.

Before watching the videos

We are going to make three teams. The first two rows on the left will be team 1, the last two rows on the left will be team 2 and all the rows on the left will be team 3.

TASKS BEFORE READING
Look on the Internet (in English) for information about Martin Luther King and find the answers to these five questions:

2.- What is "I have a dream"?

3.- What achievement did MLK achieve in 1964?

JOANN'S STUDENTS' LESSON MARCH 11TH

Hi guests,
Today we are going to do an activity regarding films. I don't know if the Internet connection and our technical problems will spoil the activity. I ask you to be patient because if it works, it may be a very funny lesson.
For this activity you need to work in pairs. 1&2, 3&4, etc.
This is the activity we are going to do. We are visiting this page:

You have to choose one clip from a Bollywood film. My suggestions are number 3, number 4, number 8 or number 2 (new). The first thing you have to do is to watch the clip several times. Then, it is the time to write your script for the clip and to divide the characters. If it is a woman and you are a man, you will have to make a woman's voice and so on. Once everything is clear, it is time to dub the clip.
On the top right hand corner, choose "microphone" and when everybody is ready, click on "record". Remember you will all be using the same microphone, so hold in in your hands.
When you finish recording, click on stop, listen to the clip with your audio and if you are happy with it, fill in the information at the bottom. Give the clip a title, write your names, your email address, my email address (javiprofeingles@hotmail.com) and click on "send". If you have Joann's email address, you can also send it to her so she can see how hard you work.
Have fun
Javier
