APLE LESSON OUTLINE MAY 27TH

Hello students,
To start with today, we are going to do the survey about what you want to study next year. It's still a Beta version, so there might be mistakes.




Click here and answer the questions. If you don't know or are not sure, just ask me. Anyway, remember this is just a survey, you can change your mind later in July or September.


Now, go to this page and do the following listenings about travelling and trips. Easy level: Getting around Tokyo and Travel Arrangements; Medium level: New York Travel; Difficult level: Summer camp. Remember you must do the listening exercise and if you have extra time, the vocabulary activities as well.

Finally, watch episodes 17 -20 of The Flatmates: and do the language point and the quiz (in theory you have already done the previous ones).

WEEKEND HOMEWORK CNN MAY 21ST

This is your homework for this weekend. The deadline is Thursday 27th. It is something you have done before. You must go to this page from CNN and listen to the news for a particular day in the month of May. Try not to repeat the same day, so listen to the other students before recording your own. Try to watch the video twice and then, if you don't understand everything, listen to it again reading the transcript. After that, go to this voicethread and record in one or two minutes a summary of some of the pieces of news you have listened to.

Unfortunately we have got used to hearing about misbehaviour in the classroom and even violence on the part of students. Sometimes, however, things can go really far.
Listen to the following piece of news about a teacher in UK who has been accused of attacking a student and try to fill in the blanks. Write down the missing words in the voicethread below:

APLE LESSON OUTLINE MAY 6TH

Let's practise some listenings regarding holidays and renting a car!!!

10 minutes: Go here, listen to the conversation about renting a car and find the translation of all the words in bold type. Write them here as a comment to this entry. Don't forget to write your name on it.

15 minutes: Go here, listen to the conversation (more difficult than the previous one) about renting a car. Do the sections: "II. Listening Exercises" and "III. Vocabulary Activities > Text Completion Quiz.

15 minutes: Go here, and listen to the first conversation as "Listen All". Try not to see the text, at least the first time. Then, listen to the second conversation as "Person B" and try to answer the questions yourself. You will need to pause the audio to do so.

10 minutes: I want to rent a car at Dublin Airport from July 23rd to August 3rd. Find out in pairs which companies have agencies at that airport and which one is the cheapest for a compact car. Write down the details because you will have to do an oral presentation about it on Monday.

APLE LESSON OUTLINE APRIL 29TH

20 minutes: To start with, let's practise pronunciation. Open Burlington Speech Trainer in your computer, choose the third unit of the first book and start practising.

15 minutes: Time to play the "guess the word game". You have to play the first option, the one with five letters.

15 minutes: Time to play "Who wants to be a millionaire". Write your name, press continue and good luck. Remember you can ask the audience, call a friend or choose the 50% option if you are not sure about the answer as in the real contest.

APLE LESSON OUTLINE APRIL 22ND

35 minutes: Today we are going to have a little bit of fun with music. For that purpose we are going to visit this page. Here the first we have to do is Create Account (on the right hand side). As usual you will have to write a username, a password, an email account, etc. write the code and agree to the terms of use.

Once you are registered (write down your username and your password for next time), for example "Just my imagination", by The Cranberries. Choose beginner game mode and play the video. You have to fill in the blanks with the keyboard. The video stops after each verse and doesn't continue until you get it right, so don't panic. If you want to listen to the verse again, press backdraft (retroceso). Once you have finished with this song, you may have a go with something more difficult. You can either choose another easy song and try the medium game mode or choose a medium song and choose easy or medium game mode. If the song gets too difficult after you have listened to it several times, you can try this trick. At the bottom of the video, select language: Spanish, and you will have the translation of the verse to help you. Good luck with your music. I hope you can all work with this slow Internet connection.

15 minutes: To have a really good time and practise your skill when speaking on the phone, you can watch this video from a nine-year-old girl from Dublin. It has subtitles, because in some parts it is hard to understand. Write any comments about it at the end of this entry.
