APLE HOMEWORK 7/9. Deadline November 8th.

Dear Students,

Last month it was Steve Jobs' death anniversary. Since I have seen in some of your messages that some people in the class have iphones and ipads, I thought you might like this very short spot.

Here is the first "Think Different" Apple commercial that never aired, narrated by Steve Jobs: "Here's to the Crazy Ones". What makes great people great?

I want you to do three things:

a)identify the 17 famous people who appear in the video. If you don't know all of them, mention the ones you do know. You can ask your parents for help for this task.

b)write the script of the commercial (you will have to watch it several times for this part).

c)choose your favourite character and make a speech saying why you think that person was crazy and thought in a different way. Speak between 1-3 minutes.

You have to send me a message to javier.arroyo.profe@gmail.com with three files: one with the people who apppear, another one with the script and a third one with an audio file about your favourite character (if it is easier for you, you can send me the audio file through "Send Voicemail" in this blog.
I hope you enjoy your weekend.
Do not forget to practise your oral English as much as you can.

APLE Homework. 6/9. Deadline October 31st

Dear students,
Today, with Rebecca, I was asking you a little bit about your plans for the future regarding university. Now I want you to go a little bit further and talk about your life in ten years time.

I've come accross a New York Times Interactive where senior students from a high school in San Diego were asked about their plans for their future, their 10-year plans.

You must hear their answers, choose two students you feel identified with and send me an audio file with all the information you've understood about those two. Then, do the same, but talking about you and your future. Try to avoid the usual mistakes. Do not read. Try to sound as natural as possible and do not rush.

Don't forget to mention YOUR NAME and also the names of the two people you have talked about.

I still don't know about the place for the listening test next Monday. All the regular classrooms are busy, so I will tell you once we are in "Idiomas".

Have a gr8 weekend.

Homework. 5/10. Listening practice. Deadline October 25th

In two weeks we will have our first listening exam, and then the second one, so I have thought that you could do some practice in this homework.
You have to go to this page www.esl-lab.com

Here you must do part II of 6 listening activities (2 easy, 2 medium and 2 difficult).
Easy:
Apartment for Rent / Bookstore Shopping
Medium:
A healthy Lifestyle / A story to remember
Difficult:
A free cell phone / Alcoholics Anonymous.

When you finish doing the activity print the screen (use the key Print Screen o Imp Pant on your keyboard) or use the "recortes" app from Windows, paste the image on a Word document and send it to me with the 6 screenshots.
If you have any problems, ask me.
This is what your screenshot should look like:

APLE HOMEWORK 4/10. Deadline October 17th

Dear students,

This week, the idea is to prove how well you can read. You have to go to this site, choose the story whose number corresponds to the one you have in your class, read and listen to the text as many times as you need and then read the text aloud recording it. You can try as many times as you want before sending it to me. When you are satisfied with the result, save it. If you do not remember your number in my list, choose any number from 30 to 50.
Enjoy your long weekend.

APLE HOMEWORK 3/10. Deadline October 10th.

This is your homework for this week. You must go to this page from CNN and listen to the news for a particular day this week or last week. Try to watch the video at least twice and then, if you don't understand everything, listen to it again reading the transcript. After that,  record in one or two minutes a summary of the pieces of news you have listened to. Don't forget to say which day you are referring to and who you are. You can also do it with the "Send voicemail" option.
If you listen to this piece of news every day (it may take you about 10 minutes) your oral English will improve a lot and you will be informed at the same time. So, add it to your favorites. This is a good way to improve in your future listenng exams.

APLE HOMEWORK 2/10. Desperate Housewives. Deadline October 3rd

Hi students,
This is your homework for this week

Say your opinions and your first feelings about the new series we started watching yesterday (Desperate Housewives). Here are some questions that can  help you speak? They are just suggestions, so you can talk about whatever you want.
Say why you think Mary Alice killed herself.
Give your opinion about the other characters. Which one is your favourite?
Will Carlos find out that Gabriele is having an affair with the gardener? What will happen?
Will Susan finally manage to date Mike Delfino or will Eddie do it first?
Will Lynette find a solution to her problems with her four children?
Will Bree finally divorce her husband? Will he die because of his allergy to onión?

Remember this is an oral activity, so you must send an audio file (as last week) and not text. Don't forget to say who you are.
2 or 3 minutes is more than enough. Good luck.
I hope you don't have too many technical problems.

YEAR 15/16. APLE HOMEWORK 1/10. Deadline September 26th.

Hello APLE students,

Here is your first piece of homework for this term. I think the only problem here could be technology until you get used to that.
You have to send me (javier.arroyo.profe@gmail.com) an audio file between 2-5 minutes long. How can you do it? There are different possibilities:
-You can use your PC with a microphone (you can use the ones from PlayStation or Wii Games as well). In that case you can use "Grabadora de Sonido de Windows", "Audacity" or any other recording program.
-If you have a laptop or a tablet (like an ipad for instance), they have built-in microphones, so it is even easier.
-You can also try doing it with your mobile phone. There are lots of apps to do it.
-You can also use the "send voicemail" tab on the right on the screen in the blog.
-Maybe you can even think of another possibility. If you can't do it at home, you can always do it at school (from 14.15 to 15.00 hours).
In the recording you have to introduce yourselves (talk a little bit about you, your hobbies, your family, what you like, what you hate and your relationship with English (school, academies, trips abroad, camps, what you do to improve your English: listen to songs, watch videos on youtube, watch films or TV shows in original version, etc.)
If you tell me where the quote "it's easy if you try" is from, you will have an extra point in this assignment.
Good luck.
Javier
P.D. If you have technical problems, talk to me after the class.

If you are an APLE student, remember you will need a microphone or any other way to record your voice for this lesson.
I hope you enjoy the subject and work hard, especially if your English is not that good.
