APLE HOMEWORK 8/10 bis. Deadeline February 22nd.

Dear students,

Due to the problems with English Central, I consider that just 4 students did their task completely. They are Laura Gálvez, Laura García, Blanca & Yeyes.
There are 3 students who didn't even try, so they don't have a second chance. They are Alex, Ana González and Elena.
Finally, there are 9 students who tried to do it, but didn't succeed, so they can do this activity as a substitute for the one you couldn't finish. It has to do with St. Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day is one of the most famous holidays in the world. It is the traditional day for lovers to express their love to each other.

We're going to listen to two different people expressing their opinions about this festivity.
Listen and try to fill in the gaps. Once you finish each activity, print the screen and send me the screenshots on a Word document to my usual email address.

APLE COMPUTER ROOM LESSON FEBRUARY 13TH

Here is the plan for the lesson:

15 minutes: Go to esl-lab and do one easy, one medium and one difficult listening starting with the letter "D". When you finish everything, raise your hand and tell me your score.

30 minutesToday we are going to do an activity regarding films. I don't know if the Internet connection and our technical problems will spoil the activity. I ask you to be patient because if it works, it may be a very funny lesson.
For this activity you need to work in pairs. 1&2, 3&4, etc.
This is the activity we are going to do. We are visiting this page:

You have to choose one channel and then clip from a film. Then as a language, choose English and then choose "Microphone". The first thing you have to do is to watch the clip several times. Then, it is the time to write your script for the clip and to choose the characters. If it is a woman and you are a man, you will have to make a woman's voice and so on. Once everything is clear, it is time to dub the clip.
On the top right hand corner, choose "microphone" and when everybody is ready, click on "record". Remember you will all be using the same microphone, so hold it in your hands.
When you finish recording, click on stop, listen to the clip with your audio and if you are happy with it, fill in the information at the bottom. Give the clip a title, write your names, your email address, my email address (javiprofeingles@hotmail.com) and click on "send".
If you have some extra time at the end, you can try to do the same with another clip, but this time use the option subtitle and subtitle it into English.
Cross your fingers with our Internet connections.

APLE HOMEWORK 7/10. Deadline February 7th.

Dear students,

After watching the film I guess most girls are in love with Bradley Cooper and most boys have a crush on Jennifer Lawrence. This is an interview at Jimmy Kimmel's Show (like our Buenafuente or so) with Jennifer Lawrence. It is only 10 minutes long.

After watching the video a couple of times, try to answer these questions about it. Do not worry if you can't answer all of them, but make an effort.
You have to read the question and then record the answer. This week you can do it the way you prefer (I suppose Speakpipe).

1.- What did Jennifer find out today when she went to the doctor?
2.- What award was she given in January?
3.- Which famous singer was sitting at a table by her side?
4.- What happened with her mum and The Hunger Games?
5.- Who's going to the Oscar Awards Ceremony  with her?
6.- How does her family react when she is awarded a prize?
7.- Is she like the character in the film (Tiffany)?
8.- What do Jenniffer and David O' Russell have in common?
9.- What's the difference between David, the director, and the other film directors?
10.- Has she prepared her speech for the Oscar Awards Ceremony Yet? Why/Why not?

Hope you enjoy it.
Javier

APLE HOMEWORK 6/10. Deadline Thursday January 31st

OBAMA'S SECOND INAUGURATION SPEECH

President Obama has just celebrated his second inauguration ceremony on Monday and this is a major events for American people and also for the rest of the world. It's always held on Janurary 20th unless the date falls on Sunday, in which case it's postponed to Monday.

You know it's his second and last term of office as USA Constitution clearly states. Many people have expressed hope and voiced their expectations for his second term, including moving health care forward and tackling issues like gun control, gay rights, the status of the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.

There are a lot of cool resources on his second oath but I would like you to have a look at the following.

  • Watch President Obama's inaugurational speech and read the script at the same time. Now read about 10 lines out of his speech. Make sure you listen to your partner's reading and continue where he/she left it. Let's see if we can all together read his whole speech. Careful with intonation! You must do it with Voicethread this week, since each student must listen to all the previous students' recordings to know where to start and finish.

APLE HOMEWORK 5/10. Deadline Thursday January 24th

Dear Students, Here is the homework I told you about. Unfortunately, I forgot the paper with your choice at school and I just remember a few of them, which I have included. On Monday I will try to include the pictures of the rest. If you want to do it at the weekend and the picture for your movie is not there, you can send me a message reminding me of the title or just record your voice on the first page. You MUST do it with voicethread, in case I decide that all the others can listen to you.

DO NOT FORGET to bring the posters for the "Energy Saving Program" on Monday so that I can have copies for Tuesday.

Have a great weekend.

APLE HOMEWORK 4/10. Deadline Thursday 17th

Dear Students, I don't know if you are a cinema goer and if you love the cinema as much as I do. The nominees for the Oscars 2013 are here!!! In two weeks time, we are going to watch in class one of the films nominated for this year. There are 9 films nominated, but we cannot choose "Amour" because it is in French, not in English, so there are 8 possible candidates. Your homework this week is very simple and really interesting. You have to go to this page

click on the eight films nominated for best picture, read a little bit about the director, the actors, the plot, etc and watch the trailer (about 2 minutes). Then, you have to make a voice comment about what you think of each one of the pictures, what kind of picture it is and your expectations about it. Finally, you have to tell me which one you would like to see in class and why. If you can't make up your mind, you can give me two options.

And the Oscar goes to...
